In keeping with our values of equal access and diversity, YDL is happy to announce that we’ve added the Recite Me accessibility toolbar to our website. The Recite Me toolbar offers a screen reader; translations into over 100 languages; color, font, and size customization; and reading aids.
How do I use Recite Me?
To access the Recite Me software, click on the blue, person-shaped icon in the bottom right corner of the page. You can use the following functions:
- Screen Reader: have the text on the screen read to you.
- Styling & Customization: change the font size or color theme.
- Reading Aids: enable or disable the screen ruler, screen mask, or magnifier. Additionally, you can access a dictionary.
- Translate: translate the text into over 100 languages, 65 of which have text-to-speech voice options
You can also enable or disable text mode or download the audio file of the page. To turn off, or close, the toolbar, simply click the red X in the top right corner of the page.

Q: Do I need to download anything for Recite Me to work?
- A: No. Recite Me is cloud-based software so there is no need to install anything on your device.
Q: How do I launch the Recite Me Toolbar?
- A: To access the Recite Me software, click on the blue, person-shaped icon in the bottom right corner of the page. This will launch the toolbar at the top of the page.
Q: How do I Turn Recite Me Off?
- A: To Close the Recite toolbar simply click on the icon marked “Close” to the right of the Toolbar.
Q: How Do I Disable the Auto Read?
- A: To disable auto read, click on the button marked “Settings.” This will give you a list of 3 functions to choose from. Click on the button to the right of the option marked “Autoplay” to turn off this function. From the settings area, you can also turn off continuous play, change the voice settings and speed, and access the user guide.
Q: Does Recite Me work across different operating systems and mobile devices?
- A: Yes. Recite Me works on multiple devices and operating systems including Android, iOS, Linux, Mac, and Windows devices.
Q: Can I save my Settings?
- A: The Recite Me toolbar uses cookies to save user settings as you make changes.
Q: How do I change the Language?
- A: To change the language of the page that you are viewing, select the button marked “Languages.” This will then produce a drop-down list of all the languages that Recite Me offers. Select the language you want from the list and the site will be converted to that language. If the language you chose has an audio speaker icon next to it, that language will be available in the screen reader functionality.
Q: How do I create an MP3?
- A: To create an MP3, turn off the Autoplay option located in settings. Highlight the section of text you wish to turn into an MP3. Once highlighted select the Download Audio button from the toolbar. You will then see a message telling you that you file is being created. Once created you will see the file appear ready at the bottom of the web page. You can now either listen to the file created or save it to a location of your choice.
