Upgrade coming! Catalog services unavailable August 13-21.

Time until catalog is back online

We’re upgrading our online catalog to make it easier to use and find items, among other improvements. While we migrate records, we won’t be able to process new card applications, returns, or hold requests. You can check out items ONLY IF YOUR LIBRARY CARD IS PRESENT.

Stock up before Aug. 13!

The YDL catalog will be unavailable AUGUST 13-21 while we install a new, modern system! During that time, there will be:

  • NO RETURNS
  • NO NEW HOLD REQUESTS
  • NO NEW LIBRARY CARDS ISSUED

More about Vega

Get ready for a smoother online patron experience at YDL! In late August, YDL will migrate to a new library catalog that offers robust new features.

The new system, called Vega Discover, has greater search functionality—like recognizing “2, Two, Too, and To” interchangeably. In addition, the new system will group the same creative work together under one record, with formats divided by tabs—no more scrolling through 20 items to find the format you want!

Library patrons will still be able to save their checkout history if desired, create lists, and utilize all the features you have come to rely on with the YDL app.

We plan to have everything ready for action August 22, but catalog services will be unavailable from August 13-21 while we move our records to the new system. Please see the FAQs below for information about what you can do to make things easier during the outage.

“We cannot wait to introduce you to Vega Discover,” said YDL Assistant Director Julianne Smith. “We know you will love the change!”

FAQs

What services will be affected?

The outage impacts all activity our catalog is needed for (including browsing). During the outage, we will be unable to:

  • Issue new library cards
  • Look up patron records
  • Process returns
  • Search the catalog
  • Send out text or email alerts
  • Process any new hold requests
  • Provide locker service
  • Provide Bookmobile service
What will happen with my digital materials?
  • Items checked out and downloaded before August 13 will be available on your device until their due date.
  • You won’t be able to check out any materials on Libby, hoopla, or Kanopy during the outage.
  • Any holds placed before August 13 will remain on your list. You will not need to re-request any of those items once the new catalog goes live. Your place in line will not change during the outage, and items will be processed as usual once the new catalog is available.
What library services can I use during the outage?

Services inside the library will remain unaffected. You can still use the printers, meeting rooms, and computers. Library events will go on as scheduled. You can also check items out from the library WITH YOUR PHYSICAL LIBRARY CARD PRESENT.

What do I need to do?

To help the migration go as smoothly as possible, here are some things you can do:

  • Keep items you have checked out at home until the catalog is back up.
  • Make sure you have your library card handy when you visit!
  • Unfortunately, “Lists” from the old catalog cannot be retained. Print any of your “Lists” from the old catalog so you can remake them in the new catalog.
  • Once the catalog is back up, reestablish any of your text messaging notification connections. You’ll need to provide us with your cell phone carrier to complete this.
