to mother figures everywhere–

you are seen.

you are appreciated.

Mother figures come in all shapes and sizes. But one thing they have in common is being there for us.

Some mothers develop this knowledge while giving over their body during pregnancy, and others pinpoint this knowledge inside of themselves when they step up into a mothering role.

Whatever your personal experience Mama, we see you!

And we are so grateful for every late night, early morning, hug and kiss, for every gentle moment as well as every moment you helped us be responsible for ourselves.

MOMS, LET US TAKE CARE OF YOU!

This Mother’s Day, let us do some of the work. If you or someone in your family picked up a Mother’s Day kit, you’ll find these things in your bag. If not, you can peruse these resources and print them or use them as models to create your own. We’ve included some easy projects that you can do with the kids–or have the kids do for you!

Who doesn’t love coupons! Enjoy this simple project the family can color, decorate and individualize. Diamonds may be nice, but the gift of a helping hand or a hug has more value!

Key Conversation Starters

Kids who learn to be self-aware tend to become others aware and world aware. We want our children to understand themselves, the people in their lives, and the world they live in. This kind of awareness is what makes a good citizen.

Here are 48 questions that unlock awareness on all three levels. You will notice that some of these questions ask a child to look within, others ask them to consider their peers, and others ask them to look at the world.

Kids become explorers of themselves first, and then their eyes open to other people in their lives. It’s a process, teaching curiosity, awareness and compassion. Words and questions from Momastery.com.

Did you know coloring can actually relax your amygdala? The amygdala is a small part of your brain that is said to play a big part in behavior and emotion.

The research may be limited in this specific field, but art therapists have been using this technique for years with success. Coloring generates quiet and mindfulness. So enjoy some me-time coloring or invite your family and friends to enjoy the meaningful time with you.

Wise parents ask their children a million questions.

And so smart parents might know, but wise parents understand.”

DIY GIFT IDEAS

A classic gift to share with your mother figure on Mother’s Day is a bouquet of flowers. Here are two flower gifts you can make!

A Bouquet Writing Activity

Start by making a list of words that remind you of your mom. What words describe her? How does she make you feel? What are her favorite foods, favorite songs, or favorite things to do? These words will make up the flowers in your bouquet, so come up with as many as you want—the more flowers, the sweeter the present!!

Now, it’s time to start making our flowers. You can draw flowers onto a piece of white paper, you can cut pictures of flowers from magazines to glue down, or you can try making your own origami flowers (here’s a tutorial). At the center of each flower, write one of the words from the list you made. Your words make your flowers more special and even more beautiful!

Finally, draw (or glue down) a big square beneath your flowers. This will be your flower pot. Make sure the pot is big enough to write on. Here, you can write a message to your mom, your grandma, or anybody who you’d like to share a Mother’s Day message with. You can write a poem, a letter, or share a favorite memory of the two of you. If you’re feeling stuck, try using some of the beautiful words written on your flowers.
