BiFolkal Kits are multi-sensory kits used in a group setting to stimulate your senses and memories. Each kit includes pieces to help foster discussion such as booklets, skits, music CDs, DVDs, and items to touch that coincide with the theme of the kit. Bifolkal Kits are a fun way to reminisce and honor the accomplishments of earlier generations. YDL has seven kits to share and present within our community.
Remembering African-Americans: Celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of great African-Americans.
Remembering Fun & Games: Board games, cards, dice, string, and backyard shenanigans! Bring back memories of playing games and having fun!
Remembering the Fashion: Every generation has their own fashion sense, and of course everything old is new again at some point. Hair, swimwear and shoes are also topics of discussion for both men and women.
Remembering the Homefront: During World War II US citizens at home got behind the war effort, whether they were rationing food or recycling rubber, they were indeed a Great Generation.
Remembering Music: Music is the universal language. Just a few notes of a song or a certain lyric can take us back to a remarkable time in our lives.
Remembering Pets: Remember a favorite furry companion that will always have a place in your heart. Even those who never had pets will have a story to share about an animal they knew of.
Remembering School Days: Remember what school was like back when you had to walk five miles through the snow just to get there. This kit is also a great way for today’s children to see what school and learning used to be like.

Senior Deposit Collections
The Ypsilanti District Library offers services to senior citizen centers, and residences within our service district, serving individuals who find it difficult to visit the library. The deposit collection provides an opportunity for our seniors to read and enjoy books at their own locations. YDL staff members select a variety of large print books to meet the needs of individuals at these sites. The materials chosen include popular fiction, romance, mystery, and western, as well as a broad range of nonfiction topics.
Currently these locations host YDL deposit collections: Gilbert Residence and Nursing Center, Senior Citizens Recreation Center, Ypsilanti Township Senior Center, Superior Woods, The Village at St. Joseph Mercy, Cross Street Village, Fairfax Manor, and Huron Valley PACE. Books are rotated periodically to keep the collections new and exciting.
There is no charge for this service. Contact Mary Garboden at 734-482-4110 x1316 for more information.
