Wednesday, May 29, 2013
The Ypsilanti District Library (YDL) was honored to receive the news that two of YDL’s public relations pieces were selected for recognition in this year’s Best of Show Awards competition. These awards are selected by the American Library Association’s (ALA) Library Leadership Administration and Management Association’s Public Relations and Marketing Section and are awarded within budget categories. The awards will be handed out at this year’s annual conference in Chicago in June.
First, in the “Calendars of Events/Newsletters-Print” division, YDL’s Latitudes newsletters received a Best of Show citation in recognition of outstanding efforts in the area of library public relations. We were selected out of several hundred competing library newsletters. YDL’s Latitudes newsletter offers information about events, programs, and services at our libraries. Our newsletter is distributed to over 22,000 Ypsilanti single-family homes three times each year.
Second, the library’s Community Report 2011 was selected for an Honorable Mention in the “Annual Reports-Print” division. YDL competed against other libraries with annual budgets of $2-6 million. Materials are judged on the quality of content, originality, design, and format. Judges will consider criteria such as the creativity of the approach, audience appeal, presentation of information in a clear and informative way, attractive appearance, appropriateness of design/graphics/photos, and uniqueness of format.
The Ypsilanti District Library’s mission is to enrich life, stimulate intellectual curiosity, foster literacy, and encourage an informed citizenry. For more information about YDL’s programs, events, and services, visit our website or call 482-4110.
