Ride Buses Free on Fridays in August with your Library Card
Bus rides have been added to the growing list of things that Ypsilanti District Library patrons can access for free with a library card.
Every Friday in August, Ypsilanti District Library cardholders can ride any of TheRide’s local fixed-route buses for free. Simply present your YDL library card to the driver and ride for free.
Bus rides are made available through a partnership with the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority, partially in response to the expansion of bus service in Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti Township, and Superior Township earlier this summer.
“We really want to invite people to try out the bus service,” said Mary Stasiak, Community Relations Director for TheRide. “More than 60% of people who live in the Ypsilanti area have an active library card. We’re hoping that the free Friday rides will encourage them to try out our service.”
The bus service is in line with the library’s desire to give people more ways to use their library card. “We want people to see their library card as a gateway to a wide variety of opportunities in our community,” said Gillian Ream Gainsley, Communications Coordinator for the Ypsilanti District Library. “Over the last few years our offerings have grown far beyond the usual books and movies. We offer park and museum passes, streaming music and movies, toys, and even seeds, all for free with a library card.”
The free bus rides on Fridays will be available through Friday, August 26, 2016. Library cards and Ride Guides with bus routes and schedules may be obtained at any branch of the Ypsilanti District Library. Visit www.theride.org for information on bus routes and schedules.
