Redemption Road

Detective Elizabeth Black has been suspended from her North Carolina town’s police department, pending an investigation into a kidnapping case in which she shot two men 18 times. Adrian Wall, a former cop convicted 13 years earlier of murdering a woman many assume was his lover, is released from prison, and the victim’s teenage son seeks revenge. Liz was one of Adrian’s few supporters during his trial, and despite warnings from her captain to steer clear of him in a town where he is reviled, Liz is nonetheless drawn to the prison-hardened Adrian. When two more women are murdered in a similar fashion, Adrian is again the prime suspect. If not Adrian, then who? Hart populates this book with flawed and damaged people caught in hard circumstances. If you’re looking for light audiobook listening, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a gripping, memorable work of fiction by a master storyteller, give this (or any of Hart’s books) a try. Well narrated by Scott Shepherd, and highly recommended.
