International Language Collection

The International Language Collection (ILC) is located on the 2nd floor of YDL's Whittaker Road facility. You may request that books be sent to any other YDL location for pickup. The collection contains both adult fiction and nonfiction and is arranged by language.  Within each language, fiction is arranged by the author's last name; nonfiction is arranged by the Dewey catalog number.

Languages currently available in this collection include Arabic, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), French, German, Hindi, Italian (added in 2015), Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Tamil.  Periodically other languages may be added according to the changing needs of the community.  Materials in other languages may also be obtained via our Interlibrary Loan service: visit or call any branch for additional information or assistance.

To locate ILC titles in the YDL online catalog, enter which of the ILC languages you wish to view in the search box (example: Arabic language materials) or access the World Languages and Literacy Subject Guide on the YDL website, and click on the link for the language materials of your choice.

The World Languages & Literacy Subject Guide also contains links to online language learning websites and other resources.

YDL welcomes your suggestions for new materials to add to the International Language Collection.  Please fill out a "New Material Suggestions" form at any reference or check-out desk, on on the YDL website.
