Eclipse Viewing Information

Monday, August 21, 2017

NO eclipse glasses are available until the viewing parties begin at 1pm. Our remaining glasses are reserved for people who are attending the viewing events.

Eclipse Mania has eclipsed the library! Here's a few FAQ to make sure everyone gets a glimpse:

  • We will host eclipse-viewing parties at all YDL locations from 1-3pm on Monday, August 21. There will be science activities and eclipse cookies for attendees!
  • There's no need to line up in advance to get glasses! The glasses will be available to families who are staying at the library to watch and participate in activities.
  • We'll offer one pair per family. If there still aren't enough, we will have some to share so everyone can see.
  • Feel free to bring an outdoor blanket or chairs to our watching parties at YDL-Whittaker and YDL-Superior to ensure that you have a comfortable place to sit. At YDL-Michigan, outdoor space is a little more limited, so just bring yourself!
  • At YDL-Whittaker, we'll be showing NASA's Livestream of the eclipse in the Community Room. This may be a good option for people with young children who are concerned about them using the glasses incorrectly and looking directly at the sun.
  • You can also watch the livestream at home! https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/eclipse-live-stream
