YDL-Whittaker to Feature Playaway Digital Audiobooks
Wednesday, April 18, 2007
Beginning May 1, YDL-Whittaker will offer patrons a new type of audiobook called the Playaway. A Playaway is half the size of a deck of cards and holds 6-24 hours of audio, usually a single title. Listeners can place digital bookmarks, control the speed of the narrator’s voice, and easily move forward and backward through the book. The device has a universal jack that works with most headphones and car adapters, and a lanyard is provided.
Adult titles in our collection will include The Da Vinci Code, Digging to America, The Innocent Man, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Marley and Me, Walking the Bible, and A Briefer History of Time. Some youth and young adult titles are Eragon, The King of Slippery Falls, A Wrinkle in Time, Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, The Giver, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Around the World in 80 Days. Since our initial collection is small—40 adult titles and 37 youth/young adult titles--we are limiting patrons to 2 check-outs at a time.
Playaways allow those of you who have not yet taken advantage of our eAudiobook collection a chance to experience the simplicity of having an entire book fit in the palm of your hand. No discs or tapes to change, no bulky players strapped around your waist. This small device provides hours of listening pleasure!
