Author Visit: Nancy Makin
Tuesday, August 31, 2010
The Ypsilanti District Library will be hosting Nancy Makin, author of 703: How I Lost More than a Quarter Ton and Gained a Life, on Wednesday, September 15 at 7 pm at YDL-Whittaker. Nancy is an amazing individual who wrestled with the isolation of weighing 703 pounds and rediscovered herself using chat rooms on the Internet. People in chat rooms did not judge her by her appearance and their acceptance and affirmation of her worth helped her shed the weight that was keeping her isolated.
Nancy Makin lives in Grand Rapids now, but began life in Seattle, Washington followed by some dark years in a religious cult in Quebec. After her journey to find the power within, she wrote 703. Since then, Nancy has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, GMTV (London) and the Joy Behar Show, amongst others. She has also appeared as a guest on XM Sirius radio (Doctor Radio) with Dr. Ira Breite on the NYU campus, and was interviewed regarding her memoir 703 for 2010 The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.
Signed copies of Nancy’s book will be available for purchase at her presentation. This program is free and open to the public. More information may be found about Nancy’s journey at http://nancymakin.com/
